A Coffee Bean false decorative door is a finished shaker door face with no cabinet behind it. It fixes to the exposed side or back of a cabinet so that face reads as another door rather than as a flat slab — the difference between a run that stops at a wall and a run that looks designed to end there.

This is the upgrade over a plain skin panel. A skin panel makes an exposed side the right colour; a false door gives it the same stile, rail and recessed centre panel as the doors around it, so the eye reads one continuous set of cabinetry. On a peninsula end, an island back, or the exposed side of a wall cabinet at the end of a run, that is the detail people notice without being able to name.

As with every stained piece in the line, grain and figure vary naturally from piece to piece. A false door sitting directly beside a working door will not grain-match it — plan on the same finish family, not a mirror image.

Sizes and where each one goes

The 12" dimension matches the 12" depth of the wall cabinets in this line, so the panel covers the full side without overhang. It sits inside the face frame edge rather than over it, which keeps the frame reveal reading the same on an exposed end as it does between two doors.

On base cabinets the panel covers the cabinet side but not the toe kick. Order toe kick skin separately to finish that last four inches, or the exposed end stops short of the floor in the wrong colour.

Installation

The panel fixes flat to the finished cabinet side or back — no cutting, no scribing, no hardware. It is the simplest upgrade in the trim range and the one with the largest visible payoff per dollar.

What is the difference between a false door and a skin panel?

A skin panel is a flat 1/4" sheet that makes an exposed side the right colour. A false decorative door is a full door face — stiles, rails and a recessed centre panel — so the exposed side matches the doors beside it in profile as well as finish. Use a skin panel where the side is barely seen, and a false door where it is on show.

Will it cover a dishwasher?

The 23" x 30" size is made for exactly that. It fits the front of a standard dishwasher so the appliance disappears into the run, and it works equally as the exposed side of a standard base cabinet. The three 12"-wide sizes are for wall cabinet sides and will not cover an appliance front.

Does it cover the face frame?

No, and that is deliberate. The panel covers the cabinet side without covering the side of the face frame, so the frame edge stays visible exactly as it does everywhere else in the kitchen. Cover the frame and the end cabinet reads thicker than its neighbours from any angle.
